High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
  • Differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking.
  • Formative assessment to monitor growth and adapt learning.
  • Advanced learning pathways, including accelerated or compacted content.
  • Opportunities for leadership within the classroom.
  • Structured peer collaboration and reflection.
  • Safe learning environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance.
  • Small group learning.
Across our school
  • Student leadership
  • Wellbeing programs
  • Participation in whole-school inclusion and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Sporting representation opportunities in collaboration with the Forbes Small Schools' Sports Association.
  • STEM, Robotics and Coding classes
  • CWA Public Speaking
  • Sporting Schools funding enabling students to experience a variety of different sports in school, with a focus on tennis and swimming.
Across NSW
  • Transitions Small Schools Creative Arts Camp is a one-of-a-kind program specifically designed to support Year 5 and 6 students from small schools as they prepare to transition into larger high school environments. The 2025 camp, Artlantis, received a very enthusiastic thumbs up from students who attended.
  • The NSW Schools Spectacular is an iconic performing arts event that celebrates the talents, diversity and creativity of students from across NSW public schools. BGPS auditions every year with years 4, 5, and 6 having been accepted into the combined school choir five times since 2018. Students have the option of auditioning individually if they want to.
  • Our school participates in the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) every year. The PRC aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The BGPS library is very well stocked with PRC titles for all levels of readers.
  • The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning.
  • PSSA events and the Representative School Sport Pathway enables our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.
  • The Premier's Spelling Bee promotes our students' vocabulary development and attention to detail in competitive settings.
